There will be a benefit for Randa Martin at Greenwood Ag Center Saturday September 13, 2014. The benefit will start at 9:00 am until. It will include things for people of all ages. Food such as gumbo, fish plates, hamburgers, hot dogs,, french fries, and hushpuppies. Snacks will include popcorn, Krispy Kreme donuts, and snow cones. Fun things for the kids will include: face painting, we will be taking cute fall pictures, and several inflatable bouncers. There will be local bands for entertainment. Some of the activities include cake walks, door prices, a silent auction, and many more things to be included. Randa’s personalized t-shirts and casserole dishes will also be sold. Randa was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a childhood cancer, in October of 1998. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation and in 2000, Randa went into remission. She has battled many obstacles and has had several side effects due to the treatments. One of the many side effects Randa faced was losing her hearing. Each year it progressively got worse and eventually she lost 90% in both ears. In March, Randa underwent a cochlear implant surgery and for the first time was able to enjoy the sound of hearing so many of us take for granted. However, things took a turn for the worse due to the thin almost transparent skin she has due to the radiation. Randa’s site is not healing properly as it should. In fact, the site is growing and has created a hole in her head. Randa’s Cochler Implant is now protruding out of her head. The doctors have never seen a case such as Randa’s and have decided she will need Hyperbaric treatments. She will need 30 treatments, surgery, and then an additional 10 treatments. Insurance is denying payments due to the fact they are considering this a pre-existing condition due to the radiation. The family is requesting for your help and to come to this event to help their daughter. Please come out to help support and join in the activities that will be going on.
