Theres only one thing I really dont understand about the Bergdahl - TopicsExpress

Theres only one thing I really dont understand about the Bergdahl situation. I understand why the Obama administration didnt, couldnt really, clear it with Congress without blowing the deal. I understand why people are upset about negotiating with terrorists, even using the Qataris as intermediaries, but also why it can be justified to bring back our last American captive. I understand why people are upset that Bergdahl seems to have deserted and that several soldiers were killed while searching for him, but also why it was imperative to bring him back if at all possible from five years of imprisonment and abuse, if not outright torture. I understand the concern that at least some of the five high ranking Taliban will become active again planning operations for the Taliban, but, in fact, international law would have required the U.S. to release all of them when we officially withdraw combat troops from Afghanistan anyway (war ends, got to release P.O.W.s), so its a good deal to get one of your own back in advance for five men who were going to go free in any case. But what I do NOT understand is why the Afghan government is saying they should be freed completely and not kept under house arrest for a year in Qatar. Say what? At least two of these men are implicated in the massacre of thousands (THOUSANDS) of Shiite Afghans near Kabul, and they dont want to arrest and prosecute them as soon as they leave Qatar? This I just dont get.
