These films, made by Thomas Edison, have some great footage of trains shot during the time that wee Port Costa, CA (founded in 1879) was the busiest wheat shipping port in the United States. The town was a landing for the Solano, a ferry owned and operated by the Central Pacific Railroad that used to transport entire trains across the deep water Carquinez Strait. The hotel is still going strong - more than 130 years later - and the trains are still running 24/7 right at the waters edge.
