These photos were taken in the back garden of the Wanstall, Greenstreet which is opposite the Chapel (Kisser Kemsleys). which was posted recently on this site by Colin Ravensdale. Roy Woodward my hubby was born in the Wanstall, the building had three floors. The section of the building that his grandmother (Lil Friday) lived in had a shop frontage which is plainly visible in Colins picture. The ground floor consisted of the shop area, two living rooms and a scullery. The Toilet was at the top of the garden (4 in a row) and you had to take a bucket of water with you to flush!! There were two sets of stairs leading up to eight bedrooms in all. Roy and his sister Joyce are standing by the well that was in the garden (they dont make prams like that anymore!) Later the men decided to throw all the rubbish down the well. beds, baths, bed frames etc including a lot of soil. Roy another young boy Peter were watching, Peter was swinging on the handle, slipped off and fell down the well, Roy can just about remember the women screaming. The men went to the oirchard which backs onto the gardens and came back with a cherry ladder and managed to get Peter out suffering only shock and a few bruises
