They wont understand until its too late. That you only wanted them to be physically and emotionally safe and happy and pain free. They wont understand until its far too late that your anger wasnt with them, but with the hard reality that you couldnt make everything perfect for them. That you were unable to make people treat them nice and with the patience and understanding that you would. They will think, until its too late, that you just didnt trust them. The fact is, that you just didnt trust yourself. You didnt trust that you had given them the proper tools with which to survive the harsh realities of this world. You didnt hug them enough or scold them enough or teach them enough about strangers or bad people. And they wont know how intricately woven their independent selves are to your soul until its far too late. Till the tables have turned and they find themselves praying peace on their own teenagers.
