Thirty years ago today David Lynchs DUNE hit theaters. Although it was not a critical or box office success, it was an ambitious attempt to bring to the silver screen a novel that many had described as unfilmable. (Many believe that it still is.) But the film does sport some stunning production design and a remarkable cast that includes future TWIN PEAKS alums Kyle MacLaughlin, Jack Nance and Everett McGill as well as Patrick Stewart, Dean Stockwell, Max von Sydow, Sean Young, Linda Hunt, Freddie Jones, José Ferrer, Virginia Madsen and, of course, Sting. Lynch even snuck into the film in a cameo as a spice miner. Plus, anyone else who saw the film during its theatrical release, remember those terminology handouts they were giving out at the theater?
