This Day in History; 70 AD: Jerusalem is sacked by Roman Legionaries led by the future Emperor Titus. Reports claim more than 500,000 people were killed and another 100,000 sold into slavery. Because of their rebellion against Rome, the surviving Jewish population of Israel was scattered to all corners of the known world and the province of Judea was renamed Syria Palaestina in an attempt to sever the connection between the Jewish people and their homeland. ~S
