This experience really scares me regarding our Social Security Administration. Its an abbreviated conversation that I had with a Social Security representative today regarding an overpayment that they had accidentally paid me AND that I had already paid back to them: 1. Connie - I received a notice that social security will be reducing my monthly payment until they have gotten back their accidental overpayment to me. I already paid that back and have the receipt. 2. SS Rep - Our system does not show that you have made a repayment to us. 3. Connie - I have the receipt number. Would that help? 4. SS Rep - That payment and receipt number are not in our system. 5. Connie - Did your system generate my receipt? 6. SS Rep - Yes, thats how receipts are generated. 7. Connie - Then how is it that the payment and receipt number do not show up on your system? 8. SS Rep - It takes at least a month to get things into the system. 9. Connie - Then how did it send me a receipt? 10. SS Reg - Like I said, it takes at least a month to get things into the system. At this point I realized that this conversation was entering what mathematicians call an Infinite Loop, so I thanked her for her time and ended the call.
