This, from the Department of Immigration to a Christian family from Iraq with two infants that fled Mosul so as not to be killed, and which is stuck in Turkey and desperately needs to come to Australia: I accept that the applicants are subject to some degree of persecution in their home country and have some connection with Australia. Although there is no evidence that there is another country available for the applicants settlement and protection, Australia does not have the capacity to provide for permanent settlement of all applicants at this time.......Decisions to refuse to grant Refugee and Humanitarian Visas cannot be reviewed by the Migration Review Tribunal or the Refugee Review Tribunal.... What a cold, cynical, uncaring country we have become. We invade Iraq, we support the insurgents who morph into ISIS, we profess, at least in the media, our sympathy for the millions of refugees fleeing their homes as a result of our foreign policy stuff-ups, and then we tell those victims to stick it. Well done Australia.
