This graphic was shared by my sister. Now, before I go any further, I want to point out that my sister and her family are very generous Christian people. Theyve given away houses, taken in single pregnant women, etc. In fact, they even took me in for a few months when I returned from India, and for that Ive always been very grateful. Sharing this graphic is not directed at them in any way. However, this graphic is a perfect example of why many of us are confused and struggling right now with what to do about the border crisis. Its as if we have to choose between our Christian duty and privilege, and our common sense. So I wanted to share it and discuss it... As believers, we can see a verse or a statement like this and immediately feel guilt. Am I doing enough? Am I too hard-hearted? What is my responsibility? Thats an *emotional* response, and yet we are cautioned in Scripture that the heart is deceitful above all things. We have to dig deeper, I believe, and when we do, we can find peace between our logic and our faith. Logic tells us that the US is $17 trillion in debt. How can we even consider being the worlds orphanage? Should we *borrow* money to help folks in other countries? Every penny we give puts our own children in greater debt. Is that Christlike? Do we have a greater responsibility to take care of our own families first? Or is that a lack of faith in Gods provision? Or how about what I posted earlier about how our generosity is actually making things worse for *both* countries and puts the poor in greater danger? (You can read it here: https://facebook/heyjuliesue/posts/10204353217574426). How could that possibly be Christlike? Clearly for the children that have already made it into the States, we have to feed and house them -- and we are -- but it should be temporary as we work as fast as possible to send them back to their countries. (Sending them back is very complicated politically due to various laws and agreements with other nations). In the meantime, we should close the border and make sure no more arrive because we simply cannot help them. (Again, we have no money!) Shipping them all over America and integrating them into our communities is not the answer. That will only spread their problems amongst more people via disease, strain on public schools and hospitals in a variety of ways, financial burden at all levels, etc. As a Christian, and as one who has given more thought and research to this than a facebook graphic, I am comfortable with that stance. And I will fight for it as long as the issue remains. Even so, Id love to hear your thoughts. I dont presume to have the final answers on this very complicated subject! The bottom line is, the Left is very good at swaying the masses with emotional rhetoric. We must be educated enough to stand on our beliefs and communicate in a very clear (and loving) way. (PS. Many of you share my posts often. If you hit share to this post, it will only share the graphic, which is exactly what I dont want to happen because I think it is incomplete and misleading! If you want to include my thoughts, you have to copy them - control c - and then paste them on your own post - control v. Thank you!)
