This is Evangelist Bruce Haller with the H.O.P.E. Writings and Audio (IFBKJV)… The title of today’s message is: “How to stop being a revolving door of Pastors coming and going…” Or “How to find God’s divinely called Pastor for your local Church…” Turn in your Bibles to: Act 13:1-3 (1) Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (2) As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. (3) And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. Let us pray: Pray for understanding through the Spirit, application by faith unto the LORD Jesus Christ, and that God will be spiritually, scripturally and supernaturally manifested in and through your heart with the resurrection, righteousness, and revelation of the LORD Jesus Christ in and through you regarding the Scriptures before us today… “How to stop being a revolving door of Pastors coming and going…” or “How to find God’s divinely called Pastor for your local Church…” Act 13:1-3 Today I heard of a local church that I have known of over the years that again have gone through another Pastor. I have observed over the last 40 years of ministry, at this writing, that some local churches are either firing their Pastor or the Pastor resigns within a three to five year period. I am convinced that such is not usually of the LORD Jesus Christ and is not spiritual and scripturally beneficial for the fired or resigning Pastor and his family or the local Church. This specific message is addressed to a local Church that is either experiencing what I just described or the principles taught here can be spiritually and scripturally beneficial to any local Church looking for a Pastor. I believe within our text of study are some basic principles that must be followed if a local Church is going to find “God’s divinely called Pastor” for their specific local Church and not a Pastor that they call, who as stated is either fired or resigns within three to five years. Contextually, in the text we observe Saul known as Paul and Barnabas being called and sent out as missionaries from the local Church at Antioch. However, let us observe the principles taught in the text and apply them to the call of a Pastor; as well as, such can be applied in selecting missionaries or even appointing spiritual leaders to positons within a local Church. Act 13:1-3 Those calling or appointing the Pastor of a local Church must be spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally qualified themselves: (1) Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (2) As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted… Unique spiritual and scriptural charter of qualified leadership is “they ministered to the Lord, and fasted.” Basically they were men, who were surrendered, by faith, to the resurrected Savior LORD Jesus Christ, who sought to walk after, in, and being filled with the Spirit, seeking sovereign God’s perfect will in accordance to absolute authority of the Scriptures. Does such describe you? If not repent towards God and by faith rely upon the resurrected Savior LORD Jesus Christ to live in and through you His resurrection, righteousness, and revelation. If you do not find yourself in such a consistent and continued spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural state, it would be wise to resign from any so call leadership position you hold, for you will be as a blind man seeking lead another blind, you both will fall into the ditch… Unfortunately, this is where the problem usually begins with what we call the pulpit committee. Dr. Lee Roberson, one of my mentors said “Everything rises or falls on leadership.” I say that when so call spiritual leadership is not right with the LORD Jesus Christ the decisions they make will not be of the LORD; unless God supernaturally intervenes. Unfortunately God often times lets us wonder in the wilderness of His permissive will on major issues of life and ministry because WE ARE NOT WILLING TO CONSISTENTLY HUMBLE OURSEIVES IN HIS SIGTHT that He might guide us into His perfect sovereign will through the Spirit and in accordance to absolute authority of the Scriptures. Those calling or appointing the Pastor of a local church must seek and surrender, by faith, to the leadership of the Holy Ghost: …the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. The Holy Ghost is the One, Who separates one unto a Pastor position of a specific local Church or it could be said Holy Ghost is the One, Who should separate one unto a Pastor position of a specific local Church and not the self-righteous decisions of the people of the local Church: Acts 20:28 The Apostle Paul addressing spiritual leadership said: Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood… The Holy Ghost’s leadership must be sought, by faith, for He is to guide us into all truth, into the very sovereign perfect will of God in any matter… The Holy Ghost must not be grieved or quenched with a spirit of prideful independence or unbelief; such must be repented towards God… The Holy Ghost must not be grieved or quenched with those who mix their personal preferences for a Pastor into the qualifications for a Pastor noted in 1Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, which are as follows… 1Timothy 3:1-7 (1) This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. (2) A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; (3) Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; (4) One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (5) (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (6) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. (7) Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Titus 1:5-9 (5) For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: (6) If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. (7) For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; (8) But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; (9) Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Note in God’s spiritual and scriptural qualifications there is nothing about the following personal preferences that some mix in the seeking of a Pastor for their local Church… Age, Back ground before salvation, Color of their skin, Degrees regarding a formal education, Economic factors, Following publically as well know preacher , Gifts musically of His wife, His physical appearance, Ideology reading whatever that has nothing to do with His call of a Pastor, Job-vocational background, Knowledge of subjects not relevant to His call of being a Pastor, Length of being in the ministry beyond being a novice, and many other personal preferences people calling a Pastor mix into God’s qualifications, for one who is called to be a Pastor of a specific local Church… Those called or appointed by the Holy Ghost will witness fruit, more fruit, and much remaining fruit in the ministry of the local Church, they surrender to as Pastor: (3) And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. The Apostle Paul’s ministry is even bringing forth fruit today, as we read and apply His writings under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost... The LORD Jesus Christ said: John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing... The local Church that calls God’s divinely appointed Pastor for their local church will witness the local Church under His leadership bear spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural fruit, more fruit, and much fruit as the Pastor and the flock abiding in the resurrected Savior LORD Jesus Christ... The local Church should remember the example of Israel choosing King Saul; in which, God allowed such to be even though it was not His perfect sovereign will, even unto their spiritual and physical hurt. Likewise, if a local Church calls a Saul and not a David a man of God’s choosing, they will reap a whirlwind of spiritual and physical hurt… Are you qualified to be in a position of spiritual and scriptural leadership to be on a pulpit committee? If not, either get right or resign your position. Are you prayerfully seeking the leadership Holy Ghost regarding the selection of you next Pastor of your local Church? If not, either get right or resign your position. Are you repenting of your personal preferences, for a Pastor and regarding only the spiritual and scriptural qualifications the Scriptures set forth? If not, either get right or resign your position. Let us pray… This has been Evangelist Bruce Haller with the H.O.P.E.
