This is a delayed (for no good reason) review of the new - TopicsExpress

This is a delayed (for no good reason) review of the new restaurant, Squawkers. ---that you never asked for. We ate there last Friday at about 5:45. First off they dont accept credit cards and we dont use checks, so to the ATM we went. Got back we were still about the only ones there, maybe 4 at the bar. It is nice looking, at least better than when it was Saltrock, just more put together looking. We ordered a couple of Boulevard Wheats. I had decided to go because I had seen a facebook post talking about their special for the week, a fettuccine dish that looked good and came with chicken I figured I could leave off. Well, it turns out they were out of the special. Keep in mind this was Friday at 6 PM. I was looking through the menu and found nothing even remotely vegetarian except a salad. I should also mention that this whole time the band Clutch is blaring in our ear from the jukebox. (I had to shazam it) Sorry if you like them but it was very loud and annoying. It wasnt starting out well here. I am a steadfast non-turn-a-rounder, but we almost left without ordering, the music was that annoying. Anyway...nothing on the vegetarian side of things so...I used some vegetarian opt-out credits I issued myself when I became a vegetarian. Side note, I should stop calling myself a vegetarian, and just say *** - I avoid eating mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles on a regular basis. Probably close to 98% of my meals are vegetarian or pescetarian. I order one of their brats (the food I miss most as a vegetarian***) and so did Tammy, We ordered an onion ring appetizer too. Tammy noticed that you could control the jukebox from your phone so I proceeded to load it up with mellower songs, Wilco, Cake, Queen, Beck, Van Morrison...it would be awhile before it kicked in though. About 4 more loud songs to try and talk over. The onion rings came out first and it appeared things werent getting any better. They were billed as homemade and I believe they were, but they were tiny. I mean thin, Id never seen onion rings made from such thinly sliced onions. However, this is where it started to turn around. They were very good, small and not very many but very good and tasty. Shortly after we started on the onion rings, the brats arrived. This time I was very impressed with the presentation, nice plates, homemade looking french fries, even the pretzel bun looked homemade. And they were equally tasty. We enjoyed our brats and another beer (also very good) as my songs started playing, so I ordered some cheese cake for dessert. It was better than average cheesecake, Im not a huge cheese cake fan so take that for what its worth. So all-in-all Im glad we didnt leave before giving it a chance. I probably wont eat there again unless I see a special without meat. Even then I will call ahead to make sure it is still available. I would classify this place a bar with great food. Other notes: They did eventually turn the jukebox down, when some older folks came in. Tammy said the restroom is amazing. It really has some nice design features. The thing I hate most is their sign. Unless there is a really good story behind it, it is a nightmare. Good day.
