This is an update from my cousin Julie for everyone who has been - TopicsExpress

This is an update from my cousin Julie for everyone who has been praying for my Uncle Vince: Let me start by saying thank you to all of you for lifting my father and mother up in your prayers. They are being answered! This is an update on my dad, Vince Cascio. They have confirmed that the abscess on his brain is NOT cancer but an infection!!!! They are still working to determine what kind of infection it is. He has tested positive for two different things; toxoplasmosis & histoplasmosis. They have started treatment for these but are still searching to be sure there is not any other infection they are missing. Dad’s speech is better since the brain procedure but he is still having confusion and is often unable to think of the word he wants to say. He does get frustrated with this at times because he knows what he is trying to say but cannot find the words to say it. I have also noticed at times he seems very sad which breaks my heart. I am hoping to talk to the doctors about this. If I am not mistaken that is a side effect of the seizure medicine they have him on. It would be nice if there was something they could give him to help him not to feel so down. Today (Thursday) they will be doing a sonogram on dads legs to make sure he does not have any blood clots. Praying that all is clear with this test! They are still not sure what the growths are that are in the lungs. It may be cancer or an infection. The only way to diagnose it is to get a sample from them. They will be doing an open lung biopsy on Friday morning. They will have to do an incision to get into the lung to get a sample. As this is another surgery it is a little worrisome to us and dad but they have told us he lived through the brain surgery that this procedure should not be a problem. His kidney function is also going in the wrong direction. They have had to take him off of the diuretics to help with the kidneys. They have him on a couple of different antibiotics and they are apparently hard on his kidneys too. Please pray that his kidney function improves. The doctors have told him that he will no longer be able to get his infusions or take the methotrexate for his rheumatoid arthritis. They both suppress the immune system. They feel that this infection in the brain is a direct result of his not having any immune system to fight things off. I am concerned about this because these medicines have helped him so much in the past with the pain and discomfort of his RA. Please pray that his RA will stay under control and not cause him all the pain it has in the past. As you can see from above, the prayers that are being said are being answered! Dad is still in need of many prayers so please continue to lift him and mother up. I will keep you all posted with any changes. Thank you again for your love and concern for my precious parents. Peace, Julie Shuler
