This is my comment from a discussion with Isaiah Imani and Lonnie - TopicsExpress

This is my comment from a discussion with Isaiah Imani and Lonnie Plaxico, among others. It is about topics and interpretations from sacred texts: Sacred texts, from around the planet, have both mystical and mundane origins. Modernity posits the assumption that these texts were authored by humans, despite their inspiration sources being attributed as transcendent. One should assume that the human authors of sacred texts were affected by human variables such as subjectivity of perspective, personal and group self-preservation, relativity of moral consistency, cultural hegemony and xenophobia. For these reasons, literal interpretations of historic sacred texts by modern human communities of faith, are often problematic. When literal, fundamentalist interpretations of mystical /religious ideology drive action in modern human society, conflicts which contradict accepted notions of human rights often arise. Many crimes against humanity have been justified by this type of interpretation over the past 500 and 5000 years. Deconstructing and unpacking mystical and mundane ideologies, with the goal of clarifying transcendent truth and moral value, should be the goal of theologians, philosophers, economists. militarists, artists, politicians, and all other persons of consciousness in the modern world. However, this is often easier said than done. The current ideological conflicts of secular government practices in the context of communities governed by religious traditions are a major dilemma of modernity.
