This is the Martin XB-68 from the Lloyd S. Jones book, U. S. Bombers. This supersonic bomber proposal was awarded a development contract by the Air Force on 9/1956.. It was powered by three General Electric J79-GE-1 engines, one in a pod under each wing and one in the fuselage. It was supposed to be able to reach a speed of 1,650 mph and an altitude of over 50,000. In early 1957 after only a few design studies were completed the project was canceled. The bomber-68 number designation was then reassigned to the SM-68 Titan missile.
