“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us “1 John 5:14 We have adopted the local church model to support, encourage and train followers to survive and recruit for the kingdom. We have also adopted this structure to corporately worship God. The gospels suggest that all followers are equal in God’s eyes and therefore all are called to minister to the lost. However, God also called individuals that we refer to as pastors or priests, to give leadership and guidance to a flock. To help the lost find the kingdom, the pastor and the church must be willing to lead the way. The pastor and flock must be yoked together in the common task of spreading the gospel to their neighbourhoods. To take the flock into unfamiliar terrain where they may become uncomfortable or lost, the pastor must be aware of God’s will for that church. Since we are fallen human beings, our own needs or opinions can differ from that of others in our church. This can lead to unhealthy situations and it is during these tough times that pastors are challenged. However, because the local church is anointed to exist by the creator of the universe, differences can be overcome if we seek the will of God. The local church must trust that God has placed leaders amongst them that can guide the church to move forward. The local church must understand that their congregation is made up of people God joined to serve in His kingdom. The local church must seek God’s will for it and to do this they must go together, before their heavenly Father, humble themselves and ask to be used in His service. Pray for our local pastors. Pray for unity in their churches. Pray their congregations line up behind their leaders to reach the lost in their neighbourhoods. Pray that God protects the pastors from the influences of the world and the attacks of the evil one. Pray that pastors remain focused on the truth that Jesus was born, Jesus died, Jesus rose and Jesus will come again. Pray the pastors seek God’s will for their flock.
