This is the nephew of Chief Alexander McGillivray who also lived - TopicsExpress

This is the nephew of Chief Alexander McGillivray who also lived on Little River towards the end of his life. McGillivray was originally buried in Pensacola in the gardens of the Panton Forbes trading company and later moved to the Alabama River near Little River. It is believed his grave site has been washed into the river. Red Eagle was never a chief and always claimed he did not want to attack Fort Mims and was forced into it. He surrendered himself to Gen Jackson voluntarily and became a personal friend of Gen Jackson after the Creek Wars. His family history says that he went to the Hermitage to live for a brief period but none of the Jackson records show that. Many of the other chiefs wanted to kill Red Eagle after after surrendering to Jackson. He was a good citizen after the wars and led the normal life of a farmer. Lucille Griffith states in her book that Red Eagle visited Montevallo Alabama at one time in Shelby County.
