This morning I lost my Blood Brother to Cancer. Mike Shepard was known by many. When Mom finally moved back to Cambridge in 1962 Mike was my very first friend. By 1963 Mike and I were Blood Brothers. I got to talk to Mike a few months ago when Mikes dad passed away. We showed each other that we still had our scars on our fingers from back in 1963. Before Southgate was built a portion of South 10th ran from Jefferson Ave to Madison Ave. The Summer of 1963, Mike and I were playing in my backyard, when the lady that lived directly behind us on S. 10th set her field on fire and when she was trying to put her field out she set herself on fire. Before the fire department could get down Mill Street and across 9th street bridge, Mike and I had got the put out on the lady and had put her field out. Mike and I were rewarded by the CFD for saving the ladys life and putting out the fire. Mike and I had many adventures growing up on the South Side, just wanted to share this one with everyone. Mike, you will be missed by many and you were loved by ALL...R.I.P. my Blood Brother....until we meet again......
