This pseudo-review might make you very angry if you are a) A film fan (who believes that a film should not be judged on its adaptation alone) b) someone who believes that the Bible doesnt just belong to Christians and is in fact a source of insight/history/something interesting to study/interpret by anyone, including the atheist-Jews who made this film and reinterpreted it with a more environmental and feminist message. c) Dislike boo-hooers who act like 3 year olds when someone else wants to play with their toy, but chooses to read the instructions a little differently. I am very excited by this film. I plan to see it tomorrow. Im sick to death of hoardes of Christians who assume that the Biblical accounts are theirs and theirs alone to interpret and find meaning from. No one (except die-hard Historical fans) chucked a fit over Troy and its blaring inaccuracies (I will cry forever over their portrayal of Patrocles) yet the moment its based on a Biblical account theirs a lot of entitlement and assumption that because theyre the special ones who believe in the accounts recorded, they get to be as condescending as they want. Facts are, Noah is a great feminist piece that fooled everyone, yaha! Give it a male title, base it on a patriarchal belief systems Scripture, throw in some very well known names (Hopkins, Crowe) and then... Throw them all for a loop and make the main protagonist the female no one expected. Its pointless to read this film based on its accuracy to the Biblical account because that was not why this film was made. It made no attempt to be accurate and isnt trying to sell itself as da troof anymore than Indiana Jones wants us to believe that Nazis found the Arc of the Covenant. Its not about truth, its about reinterpreting ancient human texts in a modern light. Its also about entertainment. I look forward to being entertained, I hear Watson pulled the performance of her career here. Long story short: Christians stop bawhawing, you can believe in the Bible, you can have your interpretation, but stop being so entitled about the ancient texts which not only inform your belief system but the Iconography of PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE WESTERN WORLD. Yours sincerely- a classics student.
