This really rocks after a bit...A story about my cousin. Mike Kling November 20 at 9:46pm · Virginia Beach, VA Lets Throwback a little on a Thursday night... heres a little of Tonys non-fishin past, sorta anyway... Back in the late 60s/early 70s, Tony had a surfin buddy, Vini Lopez (sometimes called just, MadDog), who was a drummer for an early Bruce Springsteen band, back in Jersey, called Steel Mill... there was a guy named Tinker, who came out East from California and started a small surfboard factory, Challenger Eastern Surfboards, in Neptune, NJ... Tinker wasnt overly fond of conservative Easterners (by his wacky West Coast standards, anyway), so instead of sayin, Neptune, NJ, his Challenger Surfboard Tshirts read, Out of Tune, NJ on the back... Tinker did like Springsteen, who ended up hangin around the surfboard shop with his band and friends, and Tony was there, too... i think it was kinda interestin that Neptune is just a few minutes drive from the famous 8th Avenue Jetty in Asbury Park, site of the Flume, a pipe that allowed access to a small series of ponds that hosted a strong herring spawnin run... many of Jerseys largest BASS hung around the mouth of that pipe, and the jetty, unable to pass up the amazinly easy pickins of thousands of egg-laden herring millin around, waitin their turn to swim up the relatively small pipe... i know Tony hung around the Shop, listenin to the band and partyin a bit, but i bet he always knew when the Tide was right, and slipped over to the jetty, just to make sure all was right with the herring/BASS run... i mean, we are talkin about Tony, right... So, heres some old Steel Mill music, live at a local Jersey Shore college... this is what a young Tony was groovin to, way back when, hangin out with an up and comin band (to say the least), yet despite all that excitement, im certain his inner rhythms were synced to the nearby Tides, and he always knew just how many minutes it would take him to get to the jetty... Cmon now, Pull up a seat... pour a favorite beverage and listen to these tunes, party along with Tony, raise your glass in his direction and wish him well... Cmon Tony ...
