This should be true but unfortunately there are a lot of people - TopicsExpress

This should be true but unfortunately there are a lot of people working for minimum wage that need public assistance to feed their families. Most people are appalled that there are so many people on welfare and they blame the government, Democrats or Obama for this. That does not make any sense. Blaming the government for assisting people rather than the employers for not paying enough to people? What logic is this? Herein lies the main difference between Conservatives and Liberals, the former blames the weakest for their economic condition while the latter looks for solutions that uplift people rather than chastising them. Liberals reject the notion that too much government causes too much dependence. Randomly being born to poverty or far less than optimum opportunity is not a choice or genetically induced behavior. It has been scientifically demonstrated that from the moment of birth exposure to more toys, textures, colors, etc. encourages greater curiosity, control over the immediate environment and starts better preparing toddlers. More varied stimuli and a nourishing diet make toddlers able to better manage environmental challenges. Our brain starts to wire a little differently depending on how much it is stimulated starting in infancy. The inequality of the environment in which we live sets off our primary reactions to it. Actions by government to mitigate the jarring disparity in life experiences starting in early childhood by promoting the legendary level playing field is far better for humanity than government that allows for scarcity to incentivize people to work. Activist government allows vibrant healthy social development to maximize personal potential. If environment is a variable but DNA is a constant, why not influence the variable as best we can? History teaches us that the dredges of Europe were the immigrants that flourished in America. Those that were considered lazy, poor useless people, when they came to the New World and were given land and opportunity, prospered into the richest most powerful country on earth. We did not have Blue blood here. The overwhelming majority of immigrants to the US were the poorest of the poor. Indeed our existence as a people; the genesis of the United States, has already proven that a change in environment does actually bring out the best in people. So we really should stop and think for a moment about the role of government in our lives and how it can best serve us. Government, in a Democracy is not your enemy as long as it serves the needs of the people. Government can set the stage for positive change if we so will it. Problem is in the US the poorer you are the less you are likely to vote. Those with wealth and privilege control too much of our political policy making. How do we change this. I think we should give Liberals the helm. Get out and help register the working poor. Take action to mobilize and organize people. Minorities especially need to ensure the highest possible turnout from Latino and African American neighborhoods. This is the winning strategy that helped re-elect Obama, and yes I still support him. What we really need is to bring Democrats and Progressives into the majority of Congress in 62 days! Di you all forget all the stuff that happened those first two years? The Iraq war was ended, people got rid of clunker cars, we got an increase in the minimum wage, banks and Wall Street got the stiffest regulations in a decade, we got credit card reform, student loans were taken away from private banks, the government got a $900 Billion stimulus package that kept many of us in education and workforce development employed, and programs that prevent HS dropping out and help prepare poor inner city youth for college got a jolt, and many more Progressive legislation that culminated with the AFfordable Care Act, which has been, in spite of all the lies and attacks, a resounding success. We can do better than this still. Vote and vote for Democrats!
