This was originally posted on the 2000ad comic artwork site and thanks goes to Eric Moore for allowing the share :) - When the Prog started, my favourite strip by far was Dan Dare and that was totally down to the stunning art by Belardinelli. I was already a fan of his from the Battle days, and any strip he drew id read, even ones id ordinarily skip over. But in 2000AD he was away from the confines of WW2 and his imagination was set free. And, boy did he fly - his Biogs were and instant classic and still are to this day, with him pioneering the biomechanical alien look a good two years before HRGigers was applauded for it in Alien. So, big Biog fan and ive shown here the bust i did of the critters, and today i thought id show you my Living Axe. Made from air-drying clay over a wire and tinfoil basic shape and cut-down cocktail sticks for teeth, it was a swine to do - what Massimo made look so simple in reality isnt. Found that here, on the bust, and most probably on the Biog Mothership, which im contemplating doing.
