This week, I’m posting films for the US Bureau of Mines, which produced almost 300 films from 1913 to 1979, primarily industrial films made, in cooperation with industry, to showcase American manufacturing. This first clip from 1918 shows two examples of a miner donning a mine rescue respirator. It is taken from a longer film, The Work of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, showing a variety of activities at a regional or national mine-safety gathering around 1918. For information on current mine rescue, go to the MSHA mine rescue homepage at msha.gov/minerescue/rescue.htm. This clip is from the US Bureau of Mines film The Work of the U.S. Bureau of Mines made about 1918 and available in the US National Archives.
