This weeks Where are they Wednesday features the ever sporty Jason Perkins! Q:What have you been up to since graduation? A:I did 3.5 years of university over 5 years but spent more time at Col Tuckers or the gym. I actually learned more there than I did in class anyway. Q:What are your hobbies? What do you end up doing in your spare time? A:I guess the closest thing I have to a hobby would be coaching basketball. Im saving my best hobbies until after the kids are gone off to whatever they do when they turn 14, move out and get jobs. Q:Where do you currently live? A:West Saint John in Quinton Heights. Love it here. The odd thing is West side is the only part of the city I didnt live growing up. Great old school family community over here. Q:How long have you lived there? A:2 years now. We were on Clarendon St by the old St Peters Rec/Church for about 8 years before that. Q:What is your favorite quote? A:Good better best, never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is your best. Tim Duncans Mom Q:Who is your favorite musical group? A: All time- U2 or Jay Z. Currently listening to a lot of junkie pop as a byproduct of the kids. Taylor Swift is adorable. Kiesza is also a current fav. Q:Any other education after graduation? A: I dont knock secondary education but it wasnt a good investment/reward for me personally. Ive taken a few courses Ive been interested in learning about but never really saw an education based career path. I went to university after HS because I was given the classic either/or talk by my parents. Q: Current employer? How long have you been in your current position? A: Im franchisee of the Boston Pizza in Saint John and Operations Manager for the locations in Fredericton and Moncton as well. Ive been with BP for 10 years this April. In my current position for 8 and have been in ownership for 2. Q: Are You Married? If yes, for how long? How did you meet? A: 12 years. I was managing Mexicali Rosas in Halifax when Rachelle got hired as a part time server. While I was training her, she fell for zero of my nonsense attempts to charm her, something thats never changed. I was hooked and have been for 17 years all in. She is from Sydney NS which makes for fun summer vacations. Q: Do You Have Children? Names/ages? A: Ryan is 11 and Xander is 8. They are both personality copies of my wife and I. Ryan is Rachelle and Xander is me. Q: Any interesting things you would like to mention about the family? A: Most of what I find interesting about my family is pretty normal stuff to an outside observer. I love them to pieces. Thats about it. Q: Favorite song in High School? A: Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi Q: What is your most vivid memory from your years at school? A: Driving around in Foleys car singing the school song like a bunch of maroons. The AV room at the top of the auditorium which was right outside Mr Whites classroom which also happened to be last class of the day. The gym. Q: Which teachers influenced your life and made a lasting impression? A: Fran McHugh gave me a life perspective I still have to this day and Im fortunate enough to still have contact with him through the neighbourhood and basketball. Neil White was another life perspective teacher. It was never really about subjects with my favourite teachers it was about life. Q: Did you have a best friend in school? A: Harold Coughlan, Rob Landers, Mike Sampel. Hard to separate the three of them but Harold wins on longevity. Weve been friends since we were in diapers. The other two I met when I transferred in grade 3. Im still friends with the same core group of jabronis I was back then. Q: Did you have an arch enemy at school? A: Same as above. A: A few people Q: Which classmate influenced you the most? A: Cant really say I was overly influenced by any of my peers. Lots of interesting characters. I always appreciated Rod Doucets ability to balance his life/academics. Q: Did you have a secret crush on anyone? A: Yes. Closest I came to anything happening was showing up at her house and listening to her play me a Richard Marx song on the piano. Yeah, it was the late 80s. Nothing ever came if it (timing) and we are also still friends. Im. Im not sure she ever knew. Q: What was your favorite vacation? A: Tied for Jamaica with Rachelle to renew our vows on our 10th or Old Orchard with the family camping and being beach bums. Q: Where would you like to travel in the future? A: Europe and Argentina. As soon as the kids are out of school. Q: Anything else you’d like to add? A: Just that I think its very unique and special that after so many years we all have a desire to get together and see each other from time to time. Its a great group of people. Even Sampel.
