Those who missed the Geminid meteor shower at its peak last night - TopicsExpress

Those who missed the Geminid meteor shower at its peak last night and this morning missed a truly world-class sky show. During our event at the Borrego Springs Resort. they began falling shortly after dark and rarely did anyone have to wait more than a minute for one or two meteors--some quite spectacular. And our telescopic views of the heavens were unparalleled in a perfectly clear sky... the Crab Nebula, the Double Cluster in Perseus, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the giant planet Jupiter (complete with the shadow of its largest moon Ganymede falling onto its cloud tops) all seemed to pop in the eyepiece. And the Great Orion Nebula... well, there are just no words to describe its beauty last night. Dont miss my next program there on the night of April 3/4, when we will watch a magnificent total lunar eclipse in the desert sky... our last one for several years.
