Thoughts of a Lineman..... To be a lineman is a great profession. I couldnt imagine doing anything else. Doing a job that only a select few can do. The normal everyday person could never understand what it fells like to do what we do, the all-nighters, the rain, the snow, the heat, the cold. The worst the weather the harder we work. Most people appreciate what we do to get them lights and what we do to keep their lights on. But their are some that you could give them free electricity and you still wouldnt make them happy. We just have to take the bad with the good. We all have the same golds in mind, to get the lights on safely, make a good living doing it and go back home to our families. I enjoy reading the stuff people post on here and seeing the pictures and videos. I get to see how linemen do things in other parts of the country. But it never fails some people have to put down on what was posted or what they see in a picture or video because its not the way they would do it. Its like my dad would always say theres more than one way to skin a cat . Follow your safety rules and the end result should be the same. And dont let a young apprentice or groundsman ask a question, some will say they are stupid or thats the dumbest thing they ever heard. When I was coming up the foreman I had said there aint no such thing as a dumb question. Later I found out what he meant. If that young guy is asking questions hes just wanting to learn. The ones not asking questions are the ones I worry about. The biggest fight starter is the topic union or non-union. Ive worked with both, made a good living with both. There are top-notch linemen with both and there are nuckleheads with both. If your happy thats all that matters. Dont put down on the other man because hes not like you. I hope I dont offend anyone.
