Three really great things about today: 1) I surprised everyone with a ping pong table for the holidays and after only an hour and a half and no cursing we had put it together and we already played a killer tournament after dinner. 2) Spaghetti and meat sauce. 3) Maya Rachel Stein and I spent our lunch hour with a group of incredible young 8th graders talking about poetry and creativity and the core values they have been practicing as part of their curriculum at Link Community Charter School in Newark, things like respect and responsibility, honest, caring, and doing your best. The school was founded on these principles in 1969 in response to the race riots that devastated the city. These girls will change the world. It was the best lunch Ive had in a long time.
