Thursday, January 15, 6:00pm Today was a busy day with therapy and Sidneys FEES test. At 11am they put a camera through her nose to see if she could swallow. I held her head, one speech pathologist ran the camera and the other speech pathologist fed her samples with blue dye in them so they would show up against her pink throat in the video. They tested orange juice, nectar and chocolate pudding. She did really well and had no real swallowing issues. Her main issue is just getting the food pushed back in her mouth so she can swallow it. It was fascinating to watch and everyone was pleased with the results. The testing and evaluations that they have done and continue to do throughout the process are so interesting to see. This morning, Dr. Einsphar said that as soon as a bed is open on the first floor acute rehab wing, we will be moving. So we expect that to happen any day now. We are anxious for her to begin this next phase of her recovery. They will really step up the therapy and the hard work really begins! One of the therapists described that her brain right now can not distinguish between types of noises. We will typically hear several monitors beeping, tvs on, fans running and people talking. While we can block everything out and concentrate on the person talking, everything for her is all the same level all the time and she cant concentrate on one sound any more than another. She said kinda like shopping at Walmart at Christmas. Crazy! So we are keeping her door closed and lights low so she can heal. We ask that when you visit you keep your voice low and quiet and well try to limit the number of conversations and distractions for her. Today was another great day. Baby steps will definitely win this marathon ❤️
