Tips for Frugal Living or How to Enjoy a Middle Class Quality of Life for Less than $20,000 a Year by Brian Six 1. Disposable razor blades can be sharpened over and over by rubbing them on your arm or on a piece of old denim. Here is a link to a video showing how to do it: https://youtube/watch?v=B3Kxiom83Js 2. One can find wonderful bargains at stores that sell everything for a dollar like Dollar Tree. These are the kind of items that would normally sell for $2.00 to $6.00 at a big box, or grocery store, but at these dollar stores they are only $1.00. 3. Plastic grocery bags can be used in small Garbage cans for free instead of buying plastic bags you are just going to throw away anyway. They need to be changed more often, but are free, and it is a good idea to throw out garbage bags frequently anyway before food has a chance to rot and bacteria has a chance to exponentially increase in number and start to stink. 4. Boiling water kills weeds very well at a tiny fraction of the cost of cancer causing weed killers. The water instantly scalds the entire root structure, keeping weeds from growing back, while weed killers can take hours or days to effectively reach the deepest roots. 5. Lawn mower, scissor, and other blades can easily be sharpened over and over again for free with a metal file available at any hardware store. 6. Instead of using the expensive adhesive coated lint remover rollers just use one of the old fashioned felt ones. They are easy to clean with the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. For special occasions when you want to look perfect you can buy generic lint rollers at those dollar stores for $1.00. 7. Buy a good bike and put a rack on it (Video on how to install a rack on your bike: https://youtube/watch?v=M7_-4bvi3Rw), and ride it to the store if you are going to purchase a small enough amount to carry in a backpack you dont even need one, but with some 2 foot bungee cords you can easily carry a six pack or even 12 pack of pop or beer, or anything of a similar size on the rack. This will save you gas, wear and tear on your brakes and other moving parts, and keep the mileage down on your car, if you own one, and you will get a little exercise and fresh air as well. I recommend buying a good bike too, in my experience you can save money at the time by buying a $60 - $120 bike, but they will only last a few years before you need to do major repairs or buy a brand new one, while a higher quality bike, with a yearly or bi-yearly tune up will last decades. 8. You can get DVDs for a fraction of the price one must pay for new ones at pawn shops, and mass media resale stores. Just make sure you carefully examine them for scratches. 9. Always try to be the second buyer, the first buyer often pays top dollar, but many times especially when it comes to people starting a new business, for instance, they are either forced to sell almost new for financial reasons, or in the case of people that buy new cars, they just want to buy a newer model. Regardless of the reason the first buyer decides to sell an item you can save big by always being the second buyer. Just make sure to carefully assess the quality of the item for quality and always look for items in that almost new condition. 10. Use rechargeable batteries! You can even buy 9 volts and, though they may be a little more difficult to find, can even buy C, D, batteries and chargers. If you keep them charged, never letting them completely die, they should last for up to a decade before starting to seriously degrade. When the batteries become too degraded to power high drain devices, they are still perfectly good for wall clocks and remote controls. 11. You can use a wood restorer like Old English or a generic equivalent, to restore wooden furniture, bathroom and kitchen counters, picture frames, and many other wooden objects. There are two different types, however, one for light woods and one for darks. MORE TO COME SOON! These tips are given freely for the benefit of all. Feel free to spread them to anyone you please. If anyone would be so selfish as to attempt to steal, and/or monetize them for personal gain, you can be assured, I will take legal action. Thank You.
