Tips for Hiring a landscaper landscape maintenance is a important as a landscape installation, and needs to be ongoing through out the plants life cycle, many landscape designs do not give the appearance evisioned by the landscape designer untill the plants have matured. In order to help these plants to a healthy mature size , it will take someone with experience and knowledge to maintain the plants. for example some plants require a a specific effect like clipped formal hedges or espalier training to create the vision by the landscape designer. I can not stess how it is very important to have a skillfull landscaper maintain your property, they will have the knowlege about watering , fertilizing, mulching, edging, pruning, pest control and winterization. Questions to ask before you hire a landscaper Do you have liability insurance ? Do you have workmans Comp for your employees ? are you licensed by State ( you dont mean a business license ) Do you have refferals at least ( 5) I can call ? How many years experience do you have in the landscaping business ? Do you have educaton in landscaping ? can I see some properties that you maintain ? Ask to see the tools, check for rust and old debris and if they are kept sharpened. Do you have a website ? Are you BBB acredited ? Some Red flags about a landscaper they want to be paid in cash only. will maintain your property at a very low cost. they can not buy any materials unless you pay them upfront. no invoices are given to you , so no paper trail for them. No business name. No business address. Not licensed by the State. Does not have knowledge about setting your irrigation timer Does not have knowledge about a specific native plant or tree. I feel you can save yourself lots problems in future in you ask these questions and watch for the red flags . I have seen through experience what happens when a client trying to save a few dollars and ends up spending alot in the future for the mistake of hiring a non professional lanscaper, and now they have to hire a professional to get their property back into order, and it is true you get what you pay for.
