To all my English pals. This is in response to some concern Ive read from my mates on social media. I just wanted to say I love you. We love you. To believe any of this referendum is about anti english sentiment is really wide of the mark, plus, Im confident you know us better than that. Of course there are minorities in both camps who are hateful bigots, they are a minority though and shouldnt taint what has become an awakening in Scotland rarely seen! We have been shaken out of political apathy. We, the normal folk are debating politics with fervour, in cafes, pubs, village halls, universities, on the street, on social media....its amazing.....of course it gets heated, this is by far the biggest decision any of us will make in a generation....but our social union will remain intact after Sept 18th.....why wouldnt it? There shouldnt be any hostility aimed towards Scotland if we vote yes, were not abandoning you, we would be shaking this corrupt, horrendous, unfair political system to the core. If you are frustrated at anyone, direct it at Westminster, we are. Scotland has too many problems and too much of a democratic deficit to do anything about it. If the UK was fairer and more transparent politically, if the rise in personal millionaires had not increased dramatically while the poorest in our society are punished with taxes, welfare cuts and a minimum wage that pays so little it causes them to visit food banks we wouldnt be having this referendum.....Im sure you can understand why Scotland is realising there can be a different way. We want to start it. When you, our friends and family in the rUK see us living in a fairer more just society youll demand the same from Westminster through the ballot boxes ....and so you should. The yes campaign have been up against billionaire donors, all of the main stream media and the Westminster Govt from the very beginning yet we are still closing the gap. A grassroots movement has taken Scotland by storm but the only coverage we get shows us in the light they want us to be vilified in. Dont fall for it. We are all friends and family and will remain so.....this is our chance to chart a new course both socially and politically. The reverberations after will be powerful, changes will have to be made in the way the electorate are treated. If we vote no, then yeah, the political union will be intact but to what end? Scottish Independence is the start of a new journey for all of us. : )
