To all patrons and future patrons of L A Fitness. I recently - TopicsExpress

To all patrons and future patrons of L A Fitness. I recently had an experience with this facility that has left me humiliated, embarrassed and completely disgusted with this health community. I am a 45 yr old female who has had recent struggles with my weight and felt it was time to make a change. My father who is 90 and still very active in exercise and swimming decided to purchase a membership for the both of us. He was greeted by a salesman who explained the contract to him and the deal was made. That weekend I started my workout with a free one day personal trainer, he took me thru the circuit of weight machines showing me each one and their purpose. After doing the work out I felt great, never knowing what the next day would bring. The following day I woke up with extreme sourness in my upper body leaving me unable to perform my job very well. I felt as though a cardio workout may be better suited for me to being my journey to healthier me. So over the next 2 days I strictly did cardio machines which felt more comfortable for me at this beginning stage of exercise for me. When I returned to the gym that Thursday I made a path straight to the treadmill and did my 30 minute workout. When I was finished I walked towards the front to say hi to the trainer who had given me instruction the previous Sunday. He asked me if I had done any weight training that day and I responded no, but said I would like to do some stomach crunches and asked if he could show me where that machine was located. As we began to walk toward the back of the gym he continued to tell me that the only way to achieve successful weight loss is through weight training. As we approached the crunch machine I told him that in the past Id done a program of running 4 miles a day for a period and achieved the goals that I wanted and was happy with. After hearing that he threw his hands up in the air and proceeded to yell I guess you know everything about weight loss so you dont need me for anything. Then he began to walk back toward the front of the gym, me following close behind still listen to him going off on a loud tangent, drawing attention by a packed gym room. He stops in the middle row of machines to talk to a fellow co worker and says Hey, maybe we should call the president of L A Fitness and have them take out all these weight machines since Dannielle doesnt believe we need them to achieve weight loss. The other coworker then chimes in while laughing and shakes his head making more condescending jokes with the trainer. At this point every member in the surrounding area is watching and listening to this loud display of unprofessionalism being performed by people who are suppose to be role models and supporter to new patrons of the gym. As he continues to walk to the front of gym where there are a group of more trainers sitting in the business area, he approaches the desk laughing and still carrying on about how important weight training is and if I dont want to do the work Ill never see the results. He then turns to the head trainer and again says she doesnt think she needs to do weight training that trainer then laughs and saysI took her thru a 1 hour workout and showed her a program that fit her needs, but if she doesnt want to take my advice than shes on her own Feeling completely humiliated and embarrassed I walked back to the weight machines and did the entire circuit, then left. Feeling horrible from my experience I decided to change gyms so as not to be harassed anymore. This bullying behavior was unacceptable and uncalled for, although it has inspired to reach out so that this experience does not happen to someone else. Making a conscience choice to become healthier thru exercise should be a positive experience with guidance from professional people who have an understanding that each person is individual. Though they may not agree with the persons level of comfort it should not be ostracized.
