To everyone who has been praying for my cousin Koral, thank you so - TopicsExpress

To everyone who has been praying for my cousin Koral, thank you so much. Still needing prayers but here is the latest update. Update October 14 Korals surgeon Dr Kessler stopped by to say that she is doing well. CT scan showed no increased swelling on the right side of her brain. The left side where Inland Valley Hospital surgeons did the initial biopsy still shows no sign of infection so Dr Kessler said he feels very confident the initial goal of stopping the train has been met and now we can move forward to the next step in her recovery. This includes removing the breathing tube and evaluating her ability to swallow and eat on her own. This may happen tomorrow but they will not remove it until Koral passes their breathing tests. They want to be sure she is strong enough to breathe on her own. The ultrasound was negative for any blood clots in her left leg and they are giving her blood thinning meds to lesson the chance of any blood clots forming on her left side as a result of left sided weakness. We also asked about a precautionary procedure where a filter is placed in her groin area to protect vital organs in the event a blood clot dislodges. We cited the case of Korals uncle Creig. Dr Kessler thought that was a very good idea as a precaution . He ordered the very minor procedure to be done today. Koral is responding with a squeeze of the fingers,a wiggle of her toes, raise two fingers and also a few thumbs up. She actually raised her LEFT eyebrow for Cory last night! Dr Kessler said not to worry about left side lack of movement at this point. He stated is not uncommon after the surgery and should not be confused with symptoms of a stroke or otherwise permanent deficit. Infectious disease specialists stopped by to check on Korals condition. They are ordering more of the experimental medication from the CDC so they will have enough on hand for the next 2-3 weeks of recovery. We are hoping and praying to see positive results soon but for now Koral is doing very well fighting to be part of the 10%! Go Team Koral!
