To our youngsters who have duly completed studies at Uni and await stepping on the job market/on long breaks but aspire to keep the brain continuously sharpened - heres some food for thought: The job market may seem not to be that condusive to acknowledging graduands or students achievements; as it expects that at this level one will be seeking jobs with experience. Well just when did I gain the experience I have been studying you may ask. Lets think, can we possibly attempt changing the expectations by making small changes to our situation? Points to consider: - update that CV with small responsibilities undertaken in the past, school or University, even if it meant sitting on sports panel etc - check around the local town and enquire if you can entry into the firms to do VOLUNTARY placement. . It might start with shadowing - you may attempt accessing entry into organisations of own career aspirations; but no need to restrict yourself there. Whats in it for you: - free training without being charged training fees - access to experience you gain at this time, to add to the CV - keeping your skills sharpened, commitment to tasks on the job - keep your mind focused on beneficial a activity - offers you a sense of purpose and direction - you add value to the society, while awaiting the right job, in time. NB: investment of time now will prove profitable & priceless in future. What the organisation gets - services of an apprentice, at no cost to them - services of a driven and revatilised individual with new ideas that may contribute to the firms future - fresh ideas, fresh perspective shape organisations for the future - opportunity to train and add value to the local community & society - money saved through cover for work that they might have had to employ and pay somebody to do - value added to the economy. It is a win-win situation - have a think, pray about it, act on it. Whatever suits your situation: Devise practical strategies, Decide on one, Execute/Do something! Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.. Colossians 3:23
