To the Jersey Journal: I am so disgusted by one of the cover - TopicsExpress

To the Jersey Journal: I am so disgusted by one of the cover stories of todays Jersey Journal that I do not even know where I want to begin with what I want to say. I suppose I will start off with the opinion I had of the newspaper before I had read todays publication. The Jersey Journal for the past several years has been a horrible newspaper to begin with, numerous grammatical errors and horribly written at a sub-5th grade reading level, it’s pretty insulting it’s considered a legitimate newspaper. Literary issues aside, I can now pile on ethics and lack of professionalism as more issues I have with this paper. This is due to what I was subjected to in seeing the story of Mike Burke’s passing being on the cover with a complete piece of trash article to follow it within the pages. First I will address the ethics of even writing this story. Why run this story 10 months after the fact of this tragedy happening? I accompanied Mike and a few other friends out that night, our purpose was to go out and grab a few drinks and grab a bite and enjoy a few laughs with some close friends, however after reading the article the impression I got was that we went out was to get wasted. So Jonathan Lin there’s your first issue. Our purpose was not to get wasted as the article implies. I, along with everybody else who actually knows about the situation, will admit yes, Mike did obviously make a mistake, nobody will disagree with that. When I woke up to the news that someone I was with several hours earlier was now no longer with us, I was completely devastated and in disbelief. It is something I never want to feel again, or would never want anyone to go through, yet due to your decision to run this 10 month old story in the news cycle again I have been bought back to that time and the emotions of that time have come back. As upset as I got seeing this back in the news cycle, I cannot even imagine the emotions and pain the families, loved ones and those directly affected by this incident now have to revisit because of your decision to run this story. And all for what? Some likes on your Facebook page? Some more hits on the website. Shame on you for revisiting this story for what seems like an attempt to get ratings and views. This incident is something that crosses my mind at least once on a daily basis, and to have the emotions bought back to me because of some piece of trash article are something which has turned me away from wanting anything to do with your newspaper for the foreseeable future. Now I will address this Jonathan Lin character and the lack of professionalism he showed in writing this article. For those who know me, many would say I am a very approachable, friendly and positive person, but I feel very much the opposite for this guy. I have never had the misfortune of meeting you Mr. Lin, and I hope to never have to do so or cross your path, because if you offered me your hand in the form of a handshake I would spit on it before even thinking about extending my hand to return the handshake. To me you are not a real man, rather my opinion of you is that of an unethical, and unprofessional piece of shit. Now I do not like to use derogatory language in a public forum because I think it looks distasteful of someone, but your article was trash, and trash must be addressed as so. To run this story almost a year after the unfortunate night written about is highly questionable to me. I understand your job is to report the news for such a “prestigious” paper, however this is not news at all. It is an event of the past, and what you revealed was something which was known by everyone to be a horrible and fatal mistake that Mike made. Speaking of Mike, he was an amazing person. He would literally do anything and everything he could to help someone out. In the couple of years he worked for McCabe’s he did more for our community than you will ever achieve for any community or municipality you cover during your career. The final thing I will call you out on is the supposed quote of Mr. Burke you inserted towards the end of your article. For those of you who are unaware, Mr. Burke absolutely did not say what this joke claims he said. He actually refused to comment for the story. By putting in this false quote Jonathan Lin has lost all credibility in my eyes. As long as this joke of a journalist is covering Bayonne for the Jersey Journal I will not purchase a copy of the newspaper, and I hope others will do the same. Absolute shame on this guy. I will end this by saying to let Mike rest in peace, there is absolutely no need to drag this young man’s name through the mud.
