To the Oklahoma State Legislature- Keep your hands off!!! Scissortails- Oklahoman Some good pension news Much of the reporting about Oklahomas state pension funds is disconcerting. The state has $11 billion in unfunded liabilities, which makes Oklahoma 17th-worst nationally for pension liability as a percentage of state revenues. Its an issue that must be addressed by lawmakers this year. But theres some good news out there too. Recently the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System was cited for excellence in financial reporting and for meeting administration standards. The former honor came from the Government Finance Officers Association and the latter from the Public Pension Coordinating Council. “We are extremely proud of our staff here at OPERS,” said Tom Spencer, executive director. In addition, he said the OPERS board had “shown outstanding leadership to support and require such high standards for the staff.” Kudos.
