Today I met with committee members of the Sabah Society led by its President George Hong during a courtesy call at Sri Gaya. The committee briefed me on the Societys ongoing projects and activities including the Minitinduk Homestay Project at Kinabalu Park. According to George, the Sabah Society will train the local folks to eventually run the programme themselves. The homestay is built along the original trail taken by Sir Hugh Low up to Mount Kinabalu. I laud the initiative taken by Sabah Society in implementing the project. Kinabalu Park is a vast area and more effort should be made to create awareness about different parts of our World Heritage Site. Nonetheless, while promoting such attractions, people must be mindful of protecting the still pristine environment in the area.
