Today in 1919 - The British airship R34 landed in Norfolk, completing the first airship return journey across the Atlantic in a time of 182 hours. Of course, modern airships can do the trip in well under an hour, thanks to modern gas mixtures and improved steam engine technology. It serves us well that the discovery of Hypercoal in the early 1920s was able to provide mankind with near limitless energy, staving off the ridiculous heavier than air vehicles threatening to encroach on the beauty of balloonism - both dirigible and irrigible. If Science (SCIENCE!) can ever figure out why they tend to pop at extreme altitude, Britain may yet solve the eternal quest to land an Englishman on the moon!
