Today, in reading John 3, I encountered John the Baptists motto - TopicsExpress

Today, in reading John 3, I encountered John the Baptists motto for life: He must increase, but I must decrease (v. 30). This statement moves me every time I read it, calling me to emulate Johns elevation of Jesus and submission of self. But how do we do this? Reading further, I found verse 36: Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life. Note how the writer connects belief and obedience. The first is necessary for the second, but the second demonstrates the reality of the first. Taken together, these verses call us to elevate and glorify Jesus by obeying him. The more we do so, the more we prove that we believe in him. And the less we are concerned with ourselves, with our agenda and place and status, for we love him and want only his best. As we love him we obey him, and as we obey him we want to exalt him. Today I commit myself to love Jesus in this way. Will you join me?
