Today is December 10th, the human rights day. Almost 13 years gone - TopicsExpress

Today is December 10th, the human rights day. Almost 13 years gone but people of Afghanistan remember Talibans brutal actions like yesterday and still they feel them with their veins and bones. Taliban were torturing and killing people all over the country for almost five years. Sometimes when they were not finding anything wrong with people they were looking after those who look clean and different to beat and put them in prison. After 9/11 when Al Qaeda targeted the World Trade Center in New York, as Taliban were hosting their leaders, the world, especially USA, decided to demolish them. It was a breakthrough for people of Afghanistan; the western countries noticed that Taliban is not only a problem for Afghanistan but also a threat to the world, and this resulted in that UN “start to count” the marginalized people of Afghanistan as human being. People started to enjoy accessing basic needs and services and enjoy freedom. It was the first time that Afghanistan had such a huge support from many countries. It was being thought that Taliban time passed like a nightmare and Afghanistan will take important steps forward towards democracy, development, good governance, rule of law, justice, peace and security and human rights. After a while Taliban reappeared and occupied number of districts again and gradually expanded their territory. They continued killing and torturing people who were living under their territory and started committing suicide attacks and terror actions in big cities. Now they are as powerful as they deal with Afghanistan and US governments in releasing their arrested members from prison, and they are being released without any prosecution. They can target anyone and any place over the country. Still numbers of people who are accused for human rights violence during four decades are working in high ranking positions in government, government is corrupt and there is no practical action towards rule of law. And perspective of human rights situation in Afghanistan is still blurred.
