Today is hard. A year ago I received a phone call to come home because my Granddaddy had passed away. I see him in nearly everything I am and that I do. The little owl that sits on my desk and demands me to think, the fishing poles in the corner of my office, Nonnies fish on my wall, and his pictures holding fish. I miss him. He was the best of men and vigilant about his own opinions, thoughts, and beliefs. He wasnt always kind, but situations in life dont always require kindness. He was what you expected out of a career military man. He loved and worked with an incredible intensity, and his disappointment or words could be more painful than any broken bone or deep cut. His intention was never to be mean, but he would never be dishonest about what he had to say. I love him and wish he were here to see all the greatness his family is and will be in the future. A small part of him is better than all of most people, and the fraction of my life we were able to be together is still some of the best times Ive ever had. Addison has set a good hook and knows how to cast an open-faced reel. More importantly, she has doodlesocked a fish. She has much to learn and I have much to teach her. This teacher will always be his student.
