Today is the birthday of harmonica player and blues singer Paul Butterfield (December 17, 1942 – May 4, 1987) . Butterfield showed an interest in blues harmonica, and explored the blues scene in his native Chicago, where he met Muddy Waters and other blues greats. In 1963, he formed the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. They were known for combining electric Chicago blues, rock and jazz. The Blues Band performed at the Fillmores, Monterey Pop Festival, and Woodstock. After the break up of the group, he went on to perform as a solo artists, and backing other artists, including Muddy Waters, BB King and The Band. In 2006, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 2015. #happybirthday #paulbutterfield youtu.be/0v726syh2Ts
