Today marks Holocaust Remembrance Day. My family is from Krakow and Warsaw. Many of my great aunts and uncles and their families were killed in the holocaust. Two of them survived. They were married at the age of 18, and as the family would tell the story we heard they honeymooned in Auschwitz, they were re-united miraculously in La Paz, Bolivia where they lived out their lives. My grandfather escaped months before jews were rounded up and put into the Warsaw ghetto with my grandmother and 3 uncles (My mom was born in Bolivia). As a human race we cant turn a blind eye to Anti-semitism, homophobia, racism, and oppression of any kind by any government or powerful entity. Growing up, every jew heard only one phrase when it came to the holocaust and the nazis. It wasnt about hatred or revenge, it was simple. Never Forget.
