Today marks exactly one year of working my last day at a regular 9 – 5pm job and going full time in Photography. I remember cleaning off my desk and saying my goodbyes. Later that night, I remember lying in my bed and being filled with feelings of nerves and anxiety for the unknown future and the decision I had made to go full time. The November 8 devotional that I read before turning out the light, seemed to be written just for me and this journey I was about to embark on. It spoke of letting your fears and worries for the next day, week, month, year and decade, surface so that the presence and light of God in your life would diffuse those future worries of darkness. I was humbled and set to ease as I said my prayers, knowing that God is bigger, God is stronger and God’s hand is leading my life. I sit here one year later, reflecting on the past 365 days. I went from photographing three weddings the year before, to thirty this year alone. I have photographed many great families, tons of amazing seniors and a few adorable babies too. I have had a several mentors who have influenced and helped me this past year, way more than they will ever know. I have experienced wonderful support from my family and friends, and most of all, I have been blessed with the most amazing clients a photographer could ask for. You have entrusted me with the most intimate and special moments in your lives and for that I am forever honored and grateful. As I have captured and given you photographs that you will forever cherish; your love, relationships and celebrations have given me so much more. Not only am I thankful for the thirty wonderful weddings I have photographed, but it is the thirty ceremony messages that I have heard, continually teaching me the utmost importance of Christ being at the center of a marriage. Just as God is three in one, a marriage is also three in one, God unifying two persons. There are months and months of preparation and planning that go into making a wedding day a glorious celebration. In that same way, I want to prepare and plan my life for the glorious celebration with God in Heaven. Just as a bride picks a special gown and looks her absolute best when walking down the isle to her awaiting husband-to-be; I want to live my life in a way that I will look my best when meeting my heavenly bride-groom one day. I see God’s gift of life when I photograph newborns. Newborns are completely dependant on their parents, which is a reminder of the newborn-like faith that I desire to have; being fully reliant and dependant on God who is my maker and provider. It so exciting to photograph a senior who is approaching their educational graduation milestone in life. This reminds me to look back and celebrate the accomplishments of the past, give thanks for the hardships that have turned into lessons learned, and all the while also gathering faith and trust for the unknown future. When I photograph families I smile and cherish the laughter, love, arguing and everything in between. For families, love is never ending and forever loyal no matter what. This is the same love that God has for me regardless of what this life will bring. This career that God has blessed me with is not work, but far, far more. It is daily reminders and life lessons. It is the grace of God continually pouring out on my life. Gratitude and thanksgiving goes to God but also to you, for being a part of making this all possible for me.
