Today, we commemorate the elevation of the Holy Cross. This is probably one of the first archeological digs - the Romans put a temple over where the Cross was buried...which meant that, centuries later when the Roman Empire allowed Christianity, there was an X that marked the spot. A miracle revealed the true Cross, and the feast of the Elevation of the Cross was enacted the day after the church that housed it, The Holy Sepulchre, was consecrated.
