Today we remember the 60,000 Australians who served during the Vietnam War. 48 years ago today 18 Australians lost their lives in the Battle of Long Tan. Delta Company 6RAR, made up of 108 soldiers and officers, clashed with between 1,500 and 2,500 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese. Despite 6 RAR being heavily outnumbered, the Battle proved to be a victory to Australian forces and a major setback for the Viet Cong. The victory stalled Viet Cong plans to take over Nui Dat and challenge Phuoc Tuy Province. During the war effort Australia lost 521 soldiers. Today we remember them.
