Today we share the story of both someone who we are thankful for, and a part of our Saint Anne Community who has certainly seen the many changes in the last 60 years. Our dear Clarence is celebrating 41 years at Saint Anne this year AND will be celebrating a birthday tomorrow! We could not enjoy our 60th year without offering you the amazing story that is Clarence. Last week, he gave us permission to share his remarkable story with you, his Saint Anne family. Born in Illinois, Clarence was separated from his 8 siblings at Christmas time 1948. They family had been evicted from their home after his father lost his job. The local authorities attempted initially to keep his mother and younger siblings together in the only place in town large enough to hold them all, the jail. Soon the towns people heard the familys story, and began to offer to assistance. Assistance turned into adoption for some of the family, but eventually led to all being placed in foster care for all. In the 1990s one of the family members started the search to reunite all the siblings. Clarences story was featured on a TV program, Unsolved Mysteries. He describes sitting in his home and watching the program, then thinking, Hey thats my name!. He, along with several Vegas residents, made the call to the show and the reunions began. Although several of his siblings have now passed, he is still able to keep in touch with the two remaining (one brother, one sister). In the meantime, Clarence has become our family, watching generations of families inhabit the campus, getting our children safely across the street and is known for making a few, strong statements about those who prefer to jay walk! Clarence, thank you for ALL the years you have given us and for agreeing to share your story with us. We pray for the most blessed birthday for you tomorrow, Tuesday, November 25. We are glad you call Saint Anne home!
