Today when Douglas and I arrived back at his place after shopping - TopicsExpress

Today when Douglas and I arrived back at his place after shopping we noticed his next door neighbor, Rick, an older man, leaning against the outside of the building next to his door. He was acting very incoherent. We went over to his place. It was very cold out and he had dropped a bag of food and could not pick it up since he had stepped on part of the bag. Other neighbors had openly walked right past him which irritated me. I picked up his food and asked if he was OK. He started to fall over and so we helped him inside, sat him on the couch and put his groceries away in the frig. I asked him again if he was OK. He looked at me and said in his worn out voice he was OK. We made sure he was comfortable. I noticed on his end table was a bowl of cereal that had rotted with milk in it. He had barely anything to eat in his place and what he bought were egg rolls and a gallon of milk from the local Hy-Vee. We left him and closed his door. After we were ready to leave Dougs place we went back over and asked if he was OK again. He said yes. Then we told him that he could go to Dougs anytime he felt something was not right with him. He thanked us. I think I will see if he would like to have Thanksgiving dinner with me. Older people are often overlooked much of the time. It can be hard for them (and many other younger people too who have no one) around the holidays. I think next month I will see if Rick would like to go out with me for Christmas dinner since I will be alone as friends will all leaving town to be with family. If you know of someone who could benefit from a few hours of your time and attention give it to them. I think I will also clean Ricks apartment for him. Doug will check on him again tomorrow. Help out where you can!
