Todays Update: The doctors told us thered be days like this. Weve had a really rough couple of days. Mias catheter is clogged and she has been unable to go through dialysis for 36 hours as of now. Because of this, she is retaining fluid, and it just pains our hearts to see her this way. Her numbers are still ok and her sodium and potassium levels arent out of control just yet. The surgeon who put the catheter in last Saturday will look at her tomorrow to determine the next step, but it might require another surgery to replace the catheter. If thats required, then we have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours before we can start dialysis so that the wound can heal enough that it doesnt leak. Speaking of letting the wound heal, she developed an infection at the surgical site yesterday, so shes on two antibiotics, but the good news is that they seem to be working and the infection is getting smaller every hour. We also want to thank our nurses who are taking care of her; we appreciate them more than they will ever know. Today, one of her primary nurses called in on her day off to check on her. Then had to check on me because she knew I was freaking out. Seems Ive become the second patient that they have to take care of. Matt, her nurse tonight, was thinking about her on his time off and found a soft foam pillow to put under her head to make her more comfortable. We love you all (even though youll probably never read this, I hope you all know what you mean to us). I apologize for not updating yesterday, its just that we had nothing good to say and were pretty freaked out. Today turned out to be even worse, but with all the people praying for her, we thought you deserved to hear whats going on with her the past two days. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she wages this war for survival. #MiaStrong
