Tomorrow, November 5, will be the 5 year anniversary since Gracie was violently shaken and slammed by her babysitter. On November 5, 2009, when Gracie was just 9 months old, she was a victim of Shaken Baby Syndrome, also known as Abusive Head Trauma. She was shaken so hard and on multiple occasions that she suffered from old and new brain bleeds, a skull fracture, swelling/fluid on the brain, and retinal hemorrhaging (bleeding behind her eyes). The pressure and swelling was so bad that she had to undergo neurosurgery and have 4 burr holes drilled into her skull to relieve the pressure and fluid on her brain. We have waited 5 years for justice, and still her criminal trial continues to be postponed. Although her babysitter was arrested for this crime, she has never spent anytime in jail and continues to be a free woman. This is absolutely outrageous and should not be. She should never have placed her hands on our daughter out of anger and frustration. She should be punished to the fullest extent for what she did to Gracie and our family. We hope and pray that Gracies story will spread awareness about Shaken Baby Syndrome and how preventable it is. We want her story to bring hope to those who are also victims to SBS. We will continue to fight for justice for Gracie and will not give up. We know we are NOT in this fight alone. God has a great plan for Gracies life.
